Building honey bee colonies through community: A collaboration of Storehouses Foundation with Pollinator Partnership Canada

We are seeking proposals for research identifying practices that raise viable honey bee colonies in the Canadian beekeeping community to increase and sustain honey bee populations.

Background:
The Storehouses Foundation, a Canadian charitable Foundation, has been investing in raising honey bee colonies around the world, including Kenya and Ecuador. This new initiative, in partnership with Pollinator Partnership Canada, continues our commitment to the protection and promotion of pollinators and ecosystems through research and practice.

Total Award: $60,000

We anticipate supporting several proposals with the possibility for larger awards for relevant work at the discretion of the selection committee.Priority Areas:

Projects fulfilling the mission of this fund fit the following criteria:
1) novel approaches
2) prioritize collaboration at the level of researcher and beekeeper
3) applied practical research
4) clear metrics on expected benefits to honey bee population

We are open to a variety of budget requirements. Funds must be used within a one-year period. Proposals should focus on applied research and must include the involvement of beekeepers. Researchers, Masters and Doctoral Students, Post docs, and Principal Investigators working in honey bee health and management are encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to Bee Campus associated applicants.

Funding Decisions
The proposals will be evaluated, and funding notifications will be made by April 15th, 2025. Successful awardees will be invited to present an update on their research at a virtual research symposium in 2026.

Storehouses Foundation: A Private Canadian Family Foundation collaborating with entrepreneurs engaging in complex issues for the ‘common good’ of society.

Proposal Requirements
1) Proposal title and research team with contact information including email(s), physical mailing address, and telephone number(s).
2) Up to 5 key words describing research.
3) Project abstract (250 word limit)
4) Project description (1000 word limit) with sufficient background and description of methods to ascertain the importance and feasibility of the studies.
5) Detailed budget. As a non-profit organization, Pollinator Partnership Canada does not pay overhead on funded research grants.
6) Research timeline by month (approximately April 2025 to April 2026).
7) 2-page resume of the principal investigator(s).
8) Please explain if the proposal is under consideration by other funding organizations.
